Founder, Lawa Juni Training Center
Founding leader, fundraiser & advisor of the Freed Kamlari Development Forum
Educator & advocate for skills development & economic empowerment for women

When Dil Kumari was liberated from kamlari bondage, she had no idea how much her life would change.

Dil Kumari was immediately enrolled in school. As she became more independent, she received psychosocial counseling and became a peer counselor for other former kamlaris. Soon, she was participating in as many NYF-led training programs as she could: leadership, gender equality, community development, and more. “I played a vital role in forming the Freed Kamlari Dev’t Forum and worked for several years as district president and central vice-president.”

After completing her master’s in sociology, Dil Kumari became even more involved in the nonprofit world in her area. She has held key roles for multiple NGOs, elevating education and community development. She even established a training center that empowers young women from marginalized communities.

Today, Dil Kumari is focused on children’s education, adolescent dev’t & youth empowerment. She coordinates with local governments to develop policies aligned with programs designed while empowering former kamlaris.
