About Nepal Youth Foundation
The Nepal Youth Foundation (NYF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since our founding in 1990, NYF has supported more than 110,000 children and youth in Nepal. NYF’s primary focus is increasing access to high-quality Education, Health, Shelter, and Freedom. We also provide Emergency Relief when needed, responding quickly and effectively to earthquakes, floods, and other humanitarian crises.
As Nepal’s education system, health care infrastructure, social safeguards, and economy grow and develop, NYF’s president Som Paneru champions flexible, precise steps towards equality and prosperity for children throughout the country. Our work is grounded in love and fueled by the creative, resilient, can-do approach we bring to our programming every day.
Guided by local experts & advocates
NYF's programs are designed and implemented by Nepal's own advocates and experts. Our team in Nepal, including leadership, is 100% Nepali. Each and every one of our staff members are deeply committed to improving the lives of the children in our care.
Community Partnerships
Nepal is a country with rich cultural and ethnic diversity. There are over 120 unique ethnic groups and native languages, with a variety of indigenous religions alongside Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity. Nepal also has a centuries-old social and hierarchical caste system that divides the population into distinct castes. Although caste-based discrimination has been illegal in Nepal since the 1960s, Dalit communities, who sit at the bottom of the caste hierarchy, are still experiencing over 100 different types of discrimination and violence (including the outrage of untouchability).
That’s why even within Nepal and our programs, NYF will develop partnerships with local community members, advocates, and grassroots NGOs who understand local context and need. This has been a proven approach for ensuring far-reaching, sustainable social change. We believe that the success of our undertakings depends on the buy-in, expertise, wisdom, and enthusiasm of the people themselves.
